10 Video Game Companions Everyone Hated At First (But Ended Up Loving)

5. Paladin Danse - Fallout 4

Compared to all the other Fallout 4 companions, Paladin Dance has a personality of drywall.

Between Valentine, with his old-school charisma of a noir-era detective, and Hancock, who's laid-back enough to do drugs, murder, and crack jokes at the same time, a by-the-book soldier like Danse feels more like a generic NPC than a follower.

It also doesn't help that, like the rest of the Brotherhood of Steel, he is incredibly prejudiced towards anything that isn't human. However, at the same time, both of these personality traits are actually why people fall in love with his character later in the game.

Paladin Danse's greatest secret that even he has no idea about is that he is his organization's greatest enemy: A synth!

When this information comes to light, his boring personality suddenly gains nuance as his blind devotion to his organization's goal of exterminating all synths comes in direct conflict with his very existence.

He ultimately chooses to stay loyal to the Brotherhood even if they despise him, and you begin to serve a role of a mediator, helping him achieve his goal despite the Brotherhood's rejection.

The revelation adds unexpectedness to your relationship, turning Danse into a beloved and quite fascinating character.
