10 Video Game Confessions We’re Not Proud Of

3. The Overly-Generous Demo (That Replaces A Purchase)

Perhaps we're just an easily amused bunch but it seems that sometimes a developer is far too generous in the content they provide in a promotional demo. There have been several demos which have contained so many gameplay options that have kept us occupied for so long that we don't feel the need to hand over the money for the full game.

It feels as close to stealing as you can get without actually committing the crime and it is rightly something that all gamers would be ashamed to admit.

A particularly embarrassing example of we gamers exploiting the generosity of a developer was the demo of Skate 3. EA generously released a free demo that contained tutorials, two areas from Caverton and several challenges (some of which could be played online or cooperatively). You had a 20 minute time limit on the demo before it reset and you were free to start over (suffice to say we did).

The Skate 3 demo provided so much gameplay that we felt no need to actually purchase it. The really embarrassing thing is that - probably because of people like us - Skate 3 was a commercial flop which spelled the end for the skateboarding series.
