One urban legend that has lingered for decades is how certain songs have subliminal messages buried in their lyrics. By playing Hotel California, Another One Bites the Dust, and Stairway to Heaven backwards, some listeners believe they can hear a message which promotes Satanism or drugs.

And in 2005, Nintendo found themselves falling victims to such accusations upon the release of their compilation game, WarioWare Touched!

If you spin the record of Ashley's Theme in this game, you can make the music play faster. If it spins fast enough, it sounds like Ashley is saying, "I have granted kids in Hell". Unsurprisingly, there were some religious groups who were outraged by this story, claiming Nintendo put this message in the game on purpose for... reasons.

Now, since most stories revolving around subliminal messages in music are proven to be bogus, most people unfamiliar with the game assumed it was a big fat lie. But if you listen to the tune on fast-forward, it really does sound like that's what Ashley is saying!

Even though Nintendo protests this "message" was an unfortunate coincidence, the fact that Ashley is a witch who conjures demons didn't help.
