2. Marvel - DC
Who doesnt want this? Seriously? In a world where superheroes are everywhere its surprising that there arent that many great superhero games. Earlier in this article I discussed the huge success of the crossover fighting genre and even standalone games like Injustice: Gods Among Us, so theres no need to re-tread any of that. The success speaks for itself, therefore it seems a no-brainer to have the two biggest comic book companies ever come head-to-head. Both companies already have fighting games and crossovers, with Marvel VS Capcom and Mortal Kombat VS DC Universe, both of which are popular and successful. If Marvel X DC were to happen Id want it to be tackled by NetherRealm, the Injustice developer, as I prefer that kind of fighting game. However they could do the same thing that Street Fighter and Tekken are doing; by having a game made by both developers, DC X Marvel by NetherRealm, then Marvel X DC by Capcom. The story for this kind of game is complicated as the two obviously dont occupy the same universe but its superheroes and comics, simply say they crossed dimensions or something and BAM!....there you have it. The two teams could be forced to work together to take on a crazy, universe-sized threat like Darkseid teaming up with Galactus to destroy everything. Thats a really basic premise but I dont imagine fans would care too much about how this happens, so long as it does. There are obviously some issues with a game like this; permission from both companies being the biggest hurdle to jump. Another issue is the clash of characters. Neither company would want their characters to be defeated by the other but I see no reason why they couldnt address this the way it was achieved in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, by having the two fight initially but eventually work together to eliminate a bigger threat. Superman vs. Thor, Wolverine vs. Batman, Green Lantern vs. Iron Man, Hulk vs. Flash, Green Arrow vs. Hawkeye, Wonder Woman vs. Phoenix, Silver Surfer vs. Martian Manhunter, Namor vs. Aquaman and even Spider-Man 2099 vs. Batman (Beyond). The list could go on and on, and I barely touched on female characters and not at all on villains. The potential for such a game is insane.
