10 Video Game Developers No Longer Making Games For YOU
3. Warner Bros.
What They've Done: The Batman Arkham series, Injustice, a lot of LEGO titles, Lord of the Rings games...
What They're Up to Now: Trudging out generic LEGO sequels, adding insidious pay mechanics to LotR and Mortal Kombat titles
Warner Bros. has been around for almost a hundred years now, but it's videogame publishing branch is only in its late teens. But they hit their stride when they snagged the rights to DC Comic's franchises, notably the Batman Arkham series and Injustice games, as well as their LEGO counterparts.
They're also behind the smash [unexpected] Lord of the Rings hit, Shadow of Mordor, as well as publishing rights for the newer Mortal Kombat games.
I'm sure you know where this is going...
Follow up sequel Shadow of War was riddled with a thinly veiled "pay to win" mechanic, which punished you in the early stages.
And Mortal Kombat?
Well, it's not quite pay to win, but the lure is there for people who don't have the want or time to grind the hours out for all of the unlockables. Admittedly you don't need these for online play, so it's not broken. It's just an inherently nasty process that has no place in today's world of gaming for fun.
