10 Video Game Developers That Sony Should Buy
4. Level-5
Once upon a time, Sony had lots of Japanese role-playing games under its umbrella. Since the PS1 era, that number of JRPG's has dwindled with each subsequent console. To the point where nowadays there are barely any noteworthy exclusive Japanese games on PS4.
One of the finest JRPG developers on the planet today is Level-5. The studio has made lots of PlayStation exclusives throughout the years, including fan favourites Dark Cloud, Rogue Galaxy, Dragon Quest, as well as Nintendo exclusives Professor Layton and Yo-Kai Watch. However, the best series the studio has ever produced is undoubtedly Ni-No Kuni.
Ni-No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch released on PS3 in 2011 and it was a sublime game. Level-5 worked with the iconic Studio Ghibli to produce the heart-wrenching cutscenes, while the gameplay itself was very inspired by Pokemon. It was a unique title that sold incredibly well for a JRPG. As such, a sequel was produced in 2018 and it has almost sold as many as the first in under a year on the market.
It's clear there is a desire for great JRPG's, especially ones with brilliant visuals and a touching story. While Sony and Level-5 have worked together for years, now may be the time to solidify that relationship.
