10 Video Game Exclusives You NEVER Got Over Not Playing
3. Twisted Metal - PlayStation 3
Twisted Metal was one of PlayStation’s earliest flagship titles, popularizing and epitomizing that car combat subgenre in the mid-'90s. Obviously, some sequels were subpar, but the franchise’s final outing thus far (2012’s PS3-only Twisted Metal) was widely celebrated by fans despite having clear flaws.
Overall, it retained the awesome mechanics, soundtrack, and attitude of the series’ best entries, with the PS3’s heightened horsepower allowing for more chaotic gameplay and realistic/expansive levels. However divisive, its darker narrative, cinematic presentation, and gameplay innovations were at least intriguingly ambitious, too.
That’s why countless non-PS3 owners undoubtedly felt left out in the cold (wishing they could wreak havoc as Sweet Tooth or another equally deranged yet appealing combatant). Sure, Microsoft and/or Nintendo gave their followers substitute choices – Gas Guzzlers Extreme, BlazeRush, Cel Damage HD, Grip: Combat Racing – but none scratched the same itch.
2012’s Twisted Metal never made the jump to other platforms, though, and it remains unplayable on PS4 and PS5 as well because it’s not downloadable or streamable via PSN.
Those omissions – plus the lack of a next-gen reboot/sequel – is especially perplexing and upsetting given the strong viewership and respectable reception of 2023’s television adaptation (which was renewed for a second season).
