10 Video Game Exclusives You NEVER Got Over Not Playing

Following the mixed receptions of the action-oriented Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6, Capcom wisely had 2017’s Resident Evil 7 harken back to the series’ gnarly horror-centric roots.

Consequently, it was rightfully touted as a terrifying experience whose grimy Louisiana backdrop, grotesquely malicious villains, and twisted plot (involving protagonist Ethan Winters searching for his missing wife, Mia) offered a proper return to form. At the same time, its most boldly successful move was swapping the franchise’s trademark third-person POV for a frighteningly immersive first-person perspective.

Experiencing Ethan’s journey through his eyes made every enemy encounter more dreadful and stressful, just as it made each new location and objective more enticing to explore and complete. Yet, only PS4 holders could increase the intensity by playing Resident Evil 7 in virtual reality (via the PSVR headset).

Granted, the new perspective resulted in minor graphical downgrades and performance issues, but they were small sacrifices for what countless critics and casual players championed as an exponentially scarier experience with added realism and unpredictability.

Unsurprisingly, it remains one of PS4’s most celebrated VR titles. Meanwhile, Nintendo and Microsoft never adopted the alternative mode, and it hasn’t crossed over to PSVR 2 (for PS5), either.
