An expert on all things occult, Premethine Shakeslock's supernatural expertise landed him in a whole lot of trouble when he was tasked with investigating Gaunter O'Dimm.

O'Dimm, as you may have guessed from his spooky-sounding name, is not a nice chap. He's a devilish entity who enjoys playing with his victims by getting them to agree to pacts that might not seem too bad on the surface, but usually have a darker meaning behind them.

When you meet Shakeslock in The Witcher 3, he reveals that simply just researching O'Dimm caused him to go blind, while also describing how he was drawn into one of these pacts himself.

Shakeslock says that O'Dimm drew a small runic circle on the floor, claiming that he would be "safe" within it. And while that was technically true, what Shakeslock didn't know was that he would end up being trapped inside this circle, unable to leave, and living in constant fear of O'Dimm and his power.

This is a similar fate to the one endured by Porky Minch, only here, it's a thin line of chalk that separates Shakeslock from freedom, not a thick metal case. He could easily step outside if he wanted, but he has to constantly fight that temptation because, if he gives in, he knows he will die.

Fortunately for him, Shakeslock is eventually killed after stepping outside the circle, but it's those years he spent trapped inside it that earn him a spot on this list: in many ways, death was a relief for him, because his life consisted of suffering and anguish borne from his inability to leave the tiny space around him.
