What Remains of Edith Finch has a knack for leaving you heartbroken multiple times over the course of its brisk two-hour campaign, but it definitely saves its most devastating moments for last.
See, most members of the Finch family died young and tragically, allegedly thanks to a family curse that's haunted their bloodline for centuries. You spend the whole game as the last member in the family tree, 17 year-old Edith, coming to terms and reliving these horrific deaths.
About midway through it's revealed that the Finch name might not die with Edith, as her voiceover narration explains that she's pregnant and is in fact documenting the history of her family in a diary for her unborn son.
The game ends with flashbacks to Edith's mother passing and Edith herself dying presumably during childbirth, before returning to the present as her son stands over the Finch mansion with the knowledge that the curse might claim him one day too...
