10 Video Game Fourth Wall Breaks That Came Out Of NOWHERE
8. Will Wright In The Clouds - The Sims
Although the Sims is a series of life simulation games, it still tends to keep its virtual people separate from the real world. The Sims are self-contained within their own bizarre reality, and that’s how the games manage to fully immerse you in it.
Still, references to the real world do happen from time to time, and in the original Sims, it even leads to a full-blown fourth wall break featuring the series' very own creator, Will Wright.
In the Sims 1 expansion pack, “Makin’ Magic,” the player gets to explore a supernatural town. There, they can acquire special beans, which, when planted, will eventually blossom into giant stalks that you can climb into heaven.
Now, you might expect there to be a giant at the top of your magical ladder, and you would be half-right.
While there is indeed an exceedingly tall man at the end of the climb, he isn’t a fairy tale monster but rather Will Wright himself!
This is the only moment when The Sims breaks the barrier between its simulated people’s world and our own so directly. And honestly, although Will is only napping up top, him being a giant in the clouds still makes him feel like his game’s god.
