10 Video Game Fourth Wall Breaks That Came Out Of NOWHERE

9. The Scarecrow Glitch - Batman: Arkham Asylum

Batman: Arkham Asylum is a video game classic that spawned a sea of fans for Rocksteady Studios and just as many reviewers talking about their games making you "feel like Batman."

The game features a lot of greatly written characters and interesting plot points, but the most memorable moment in Gotham City's least successful resocialization center has to be the unexpected fourth-wall break at the beginning of the story.

Witnessing your console or PC crashing, glitching, and going through all sorts of other technical difficulties can give any gamer a heart attack, and this is exactly what Rocksteady capitalizes on during one of the nightmare sequences during Batman's encounter with Scarecrow.

One moment, you're playing the game as usual. The next moment, your entire screen is glitching out and then freezing. At first, it seems like your device might be messing up, but in reality, it's actually the game trying to make Scarecrow's powers feel genuinely scary by preying not on the Dark Knight's greatest fears, but rather on those of you, the player.

Suffice to say, this sudden immersion break works like a charm every time someone new tries out Arkham Asylum.
