10 Video Game Franchises Microsoft Needs To Win The Console War

4. Blue Dragon

"Blue who?" you might say, but "Blue DRAGON!" plenty fans of this cult RPG would shout back. Worked on by one Hironobu Sakaguchi, the man who wrote both Final Fantasy VI and VII (got your attention now?) Blue Dragon also had Dragon Ball Z artist Akira Toriyama behind the character and world design, just like the Japan-slaying Dragon Quest franchise did. For one reason or another this just didn't catch on like it should've done though - possibly down to too much of a reliance on old school RPG tropes such as turn-based battles and a story that was fairly predictable. Microsoft get behind it too much either as they were still establishing themselves as a console heavyweight, and when the other titles that release in the year you're trying to make a mark are Bioshock, Call of Duty 4, Portal and Halo 3, chances are you'll get pushed aside in the locker room as the main team come flooding in. Blue Dragon has every possibility to be the 'Xbox-only Final Fantasy' with enough charm to recapture the best of what the genre has to offer. As current Final Fantasy is a total mess anyway, it's the perfect time to resurrect such an already fantastic game.
