5. Mass Effect
Much has been said about Mass Effect, as it's one thing to turn in a naff game out of nowhere - Ride to Hell: Retribution, anyone? - but it's a million times worse when you've got a suitably positive amount of fervour built up either through footage available, PR push, or in this case a near 100-hour campaign people outright
loved. Forget all that hatred towards the ending of ME3 though, over the years there's emerged quite the contingent of defenders who'll happily say it actually worked just fine, and instead let's focus on
where the series can go from here. Following the departure of a few core team members from Bioware - face of the company Casey Hudson being one of the biggest - the only thing we've been left with is an E3 teaser from last year that alluded to an entire galaxy worth exploring, No Man's Sky-style. Whether even NMS can pull that off is another question, but apply such lofty goals to the Mass Effect series and it'll be something truly spectacular. It always felt like an 'Xbox franchise' anyway, and even though the ending of three has gone down as one of the most divisive since The Sopranos' cut to black, there's still oodles of potential to tap back into that love everyone had for such a spectacular sci-fi world.
