10 Video Game Franchises That Need To Die
3. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon
One of the crown jewels of the Tom Clancy brand of games, Ghost Recon has had about 11 mainline games, and a surprising amount of spin-offs.
The reason for this franchise being on this list is because the latest entry, Breakpoint, was disappointing in comparison to the other games. With a larger focus on survival than other games, bad mission design, and an always-online requirement, the game was criticized by fans and review sites alike.
Then of course, there's the game being added to Ubisoft's NFT service. Yes, really. Basically, you could buy in-game items using cryptocurrency. So essentially, microtransactions (which everyone loves) but with crypto.
Feedback was so bad, it forced Ubisoft to immediately change course and remove the service from the game. But don't worry, there were normal microtransactions everywhere, so you can still pay more money.
It seems that Ghost Recon is going to fall prey to most of EA's worst practices, and due to that, it might be for the best if we never get another entry.
