10 Video Game “Heroes” You Really Shouldn’t Be Rooting For
4. Trevor Phillips (Grand Theft Auto V)
Grand Theft Auto’s Trevor Phillips is downright unhinged – mentally unstable and morally bankrupt – even by the standards of this particular series. Even CJ from San Andreas demonstrated some remorse for his actions, but Trevor is the embodiment of depravity and psychosis, a murderer, torturer and suspected cannibal.
Worse still, the character demonstrates no restraint, accepting zero responsibility for his actions. Case and point: his relationship with Floyd – his closest friend – whom is abused constantly, sexually assaulted and eventually murdered by Trevor. The character’s equally responsible for the single most disturbing, controversial sequence in the entire series in which the player is expected to bludgeon a kidnapped victim with various instruments and random objects.
Admittedly, Trevor really isn’t a “hero” in the strictest sense, but his circumstantial allegiances and motivations make him a hero by extension. Honestly, the character could easily be the villain, and you’d never notice the change, making him difficult to root for.
