10 Video Game “Heroes” You Really Shouldn’t Be Rooting For
5. Jackie Estacado (The Darkness)
Jackie
Estacado – a contract killer for the Italian mafia – somewhat deserved the
terrible things that happened to him. After all, he’s murdered a good many
people, some entirely innocent. That said, Jackie is an incredibly sympathetic
character – despite his misconduct – exploited by those closest to him from the
tender age of twelve. His is a tragic story.
However, the only reason he abandons crime – organised crime anyway – is because the character is betrayed by his uncle during a mission. Otherwise, Jackie would have continued indefinitely, performing assassinations and disposing of corpses, which isn’t especially heroic. His actions are entirely reactionary, prompted by extraneous circumstances. He’s also responsible for getting his girlfriend brutally assassinated, as well as numerous others innocence.
Jackie is eventually given the option to redeem himself, but is instead overwhelmed by the darkness inside him, which assumes control following the events of the original game.
