10 Video Game Items That Are Completely Useless (On Purpose!)

1. Pendant - Dark Souls

The pendant in the first Dark Souls is perhaps the single funniest prank in the history of gaming.

As the series had already established itself as devilishly difficult with Demon Souls, and those going into Souls were fully aware that they'd need all the help they could get with the various troublesome bosses they'd be facing.

And so, the pendant item you can obtain as your starter item seems like an interesting choice. Creator Hidetaka Miyazaki stated it was one of the best choices to begin the game with, resulting in intense speculation as the the secret benefit of picking this mysterious item.

Proving himself a true trickster, Hidetaka would later reveal he had "a little bit of an intention to play a prank" by telling everyone the item has a use, when it actually did not.

Mind you, this was after hours and hours of effort amongst players to try and do everything imaginable to figure out what the use of the pendant was. In a mysterious and elusive game like Dark Souls, it makes total sense to think that its use was something obscure. As it turned out, its use was to amuse the creators while players tried to find a use for a useless item.

I like my comics like I like my coffee - in huge, unquestionably unhealthy doses.
