10 Video Game Items That Are Completely Useless (On Purpose!)
2. The Real Knife - Undertale
If you choose to do the bloodthirsty Genocide route of Undertale, you'll quickly realise that many of the items that would otherwise be useless suddenly have value to you. After all, in the peaceful routes of the game, you have basically zero use for any attack upgrades or items - whereas when you suddenly have cutesy pixel monsters to kill, they're absolutely vital.
In a strange twist of fate, though, the most powerful piece of attack-based equipment is actually entirely worthless. This is because the Real Knife is obtained in Asgore's Home, which you reach after killing all but one enemy in the game.
Said final enemy is the last boss of the game, Sans. Because of the nature of his fight - where you have to dodge his increasingly insane attacks until you're finally given one opening to kill him - Sans has basically no defence, and a single point of health, meaning it literally doesn't matter how high your attack is for this fight.
And so, unless you hack the game to get the knife early, getting it serves no purpose aside from making you realise you've become pretty hardcore.
