There are a plethora of games out there which simulate the life of a musician. Guitar Hero has had it's day and faded, but for awhile there we were suffocated with dozens of rhythm titles: Rock Band: The Beatles, Guitar Hero: Metallica and Virtual Strummer: Journey's Greatest Hits (I made that last one up). The early games that demanded you hold a, not at all silly, little plastic guitar, did at least force you to play a bunch of songs you didn't like before being able to play the ones that you did. But not once, in any of these titles, was there a bonus level where you snort the ashes of an ex-band member. At no point did you have to present your posterior to a record executive. You were never forced to change your image, alter your personality to make it more, or less, 'media-friendly', or hold a benefit concert for victims of stampeding giraffes. We all know the rock and roll lifestyle can be rife with pleasure and pain. The drugs can take it's toll on any one. The groupies could be carrying anything from Chlamydia to Typhoid. You're constantly scrutinised: "We waited ten years for this album and it sucks!" "Play Freebird!" "You should have stopped touring when they declared you legally dead!" No, these games lack the realism of just how hard touring musicians have to work, the compromises they make and the health concerns they face. Also the money. They should pay you for playing those games.
