10 Video Game Little Guys Who Had No Right To Win

4. Phoenix Wright

In the real world, being a lawyer is an incredibly boring job involving a ton of paperwork, not even counting the years and years of exams needed to qualify in the first place. However, in Capcom's world, being a lawyer is the most exciting job in the whole world. The Phoenix Wright series doesn't sound like an exciting game at all (it's basically a visual novel where your main input is deciding what item to show to a certain character), yet once you're in the courtroom and the pressure is on, it's as intense as any other puzzle game. It helps that the game is filled with great, memorable characters. Support characters like Detective Gumshoe and Larry Butz are great for comic relief but the game really hinges on it's two main characters; the titular Phoenix Wright and his assistant Maya Fey. While you couldn't call a guy with a lawyer's badge a complete idiot, it's fair to say that Phoenix and Maya ride their luck at times. Often, to increase the tension and drama, Phoenix will head into the courtroom with absolutely no idea how to get his client off the hook. He usually comes out on top, of course, but it's through sheer luck a lot of the time. Not a great look for a professional. It doesn't help that Phoenix takes on some pretty big cases. In the final case of the first game, Phoenix goes toe-to-toe with the Chief Of Police; a man capable of tearing him apart and ruining his career. In fact, the stakes are high most of the time and Phoenix spends a lot of the game with his back up against the wall. Through sheer determination (and the aforementioned dose of luck), he always finds a way to get his clients found innocent though, as well as finding who the real guilty party is. If being a lawyer is this much fun, we certainly wouldn't object to a career change.

I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
