10 Video Game Little Guys Who Had No Right To Win

5. Guybrush Threepwood (Monkey Island Series)

If you were to close your eyes and picture a pirate, you'd probably picture somebody much, much different to Guybrush Threepwood. Still, can you blame a guy for wanting to fulfill his dream of becoming a mighty pirate? Guybrush is the hero of the brilliant Monkey Island series and he's quickly become one of gaming's most iconic heroes, largely thanks to the genius writing of the series; something has gone seriously wrong if you don't find yourself in fits of laughter while playing through a Monkey Island game. Unfortunately for Guybrush, he comes to be the butt of many jokes throughout the series. He's portrayed as a young man (he always lies about his age so it's pretty hard to judge exactly how old he is) but with the attitude and sensibilities of a small child. He possesses quick wit and the occasional bout of clever thinking but most of the time, his plans and schemes end up back-firing in his face. Somehow, despite being a simpleton, Guybrush manages to defeat the ghost pirate LeChuck again and again in humorous ways. In Monkey Island 2, LeChuck tortures Guybrush with a voodoo doll and the pirate-wannabe still manages to overcome the odds to banish the fearsome pirate. In a series designed around quick wit, improbable situations and silly characters, Guybrush's knack for outperforming himself is ideal.

I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
