10 Video Game Mechanics You Totally Ignored (But Shouldn't Have)
9. Hook Boost - Doom Eternal
The Super Shotgun has been a staple in Doom since the early days. With that said, the double-barrelled boomstick is more versatile than ever in Doom Eternal since it's equipped with a Meat Hook.
The Doom Slayer can use the device, not just to grapple onto out-of-reach areas, but close the distance between enemies. If you get the angle right, you can swing around areas like a la Tarzan, which looks hilarious and awesome. It takes a while to get the hang of, but the Meat Hook proves to be extremely handy.
But there are other ways the demon-shredding tool can make life easier. If you grapple onto an enemy with the cleaved weapon and jump at the exact moment you reach them, you can catapult ahead or upward, reaching areas normally inaccessible. Chaining this with double-jumps or double-dash can let you bypass huge chunks of the level, which is a godsend for speed-runners.
The trick is easier to pull off when the frame-rate is perfect (sorry, Switch) so make sure your specs are up to snuff before giving it a whirl.
