10 Video Game Mini-Games Discovered YEARS Later

2. Duck Racing - Shenmue II

The official strategy guide for Shenmue II made no mention of its special duck racing mini-game, and it wasn't until a few years after release that amateur guide writers began to discover it for themselves.

That they did at all is frankly a miracle, considering the wildly convoluted hoops you're forced to jump through in order to unlock it.

First off you need to collect a bronze medal by carrying out one of a few possible tedious tasks, and then acquire the silver medal by beating two tricky opponents at the arcade.

Then you'll be able to access duck races, though won't have a duck to race. So, you'll have to catch four leaves at once at the nearby temple, after which you'll finally gain custody of a duck.

If your duck wins any of the races, you'll get a "Big Gold Medal" which, in a hilariously infuriating twist, turns out to be completely useless. Never change, Yu Suzuki.
