10 Video Game Mini-Games Discovered YEARS Later
1. Sound Matching - Shining The Holy Ark
And we'll end this list with the deepest of deep cuts now - a recent discovery from the 1996 cult fave Sega Saturn RPG Shining the Holy Ark.
This past June, almost 30 years after the game's release, retro enthusiast Bo Bayles - who is well known online for his attempts to reverse engineer elements from retro games - discovered a secret sound-matching mini-game hidden within Shining the Holy Ark.
While digging around in the guts of the game, Bayles found a secret mini-game where a series of animal sound effects are played, and the player has to then press the button corresponding to each animal.
Except, the game doesn't tell you which button corresponds to which sound, so you have to figure it out yourself.
If you miss less than three sounds, you'll unlock the game's debug menu, allowing you to change maps, level up, and a whole host of other useful options.
Bayles called it the "strangest hidden feature" he's ever seen, and even released a patch making the mini-game easily accessible to anyone emulating Shining the Holy Ark.
