10 Video Game Moments That Made You Cry Like A Baby

5. Mass Effect 3 - Mordin Solus' Sacrifice

What ending? No, instead we're going to talk about something that Mass Effect got absolutely spot on; the bowing out of Mordin 'The Singing Salarian' Solus. One of the most beloved characters in the trilogy, he made his mark instantly in part two by being an incredibly distanced, scientifically-minded genius who appeared to be utterly desensitised to the emotions of others. However as time went on and we learned of exactly how he expressed himself - as well as his role in concocting a lethal virus that caused a mass genocide - we knew Solus was going to be important to the endgame. Mass Effect is a game built around many different choices, so it stands to reason that many things can affect how the final conversation with Mordin goes down - as well as if you even liked him to begin with. For the sake of this entry though let's go with the most common opinion; that Solus was just wall-to-wall awesome. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-_X9Tsg0Fc The Salarian goes out in one of the most heroic ways possible, choosing to sacrifice himself to ensure the cure for the aforementioned genocide gets dispersed correctly. Although you have options for how to handle what your final words are - even shooting him to prevent this if you wish - at this stage in the trilogy we were all talking to crew members as if they were our best friends. Needless to say that lump in our collective throats came incredibly naturally when he uttered the phrase "It had to be me. Someone else might have gotten it wrong."
