10 Video Game Movies That Wouldn’t Definitely Suck

7. Call Of Duty

Red Dead Redemption
Activision

With the incredible success of the Call of Duty franchise, it’s surprising how no one has turned it into a movie already. They wouldn’t really have to try either; Hollywood could churn out any old straight-to-DVD standard film, slap the CoD label on there and they could make millions (considering most gamers seem to hate the franchise, every new release is always the top selling game of the year, so someone’s buying them).

However, a Call of Duty movie has the potential to be pretty good if the film-makers made an effort. Gamers may dislike the games for their repetitiveness, but most of their stories have been quite engaging (the Russia-USA war featured in the Modern Warfare trilogy for example), so writers could take any of the games to use as the basis for their movie, or just create their own story.

They could also make the film in a number of styles and genres. It could be a straight up war/disaster style movie, or they could take the team dynamic of the games and make a Fast and Furious style ensemble piece. They’ve never blown people away, but the Fast and Furious films have always been pretty decent and mostly well received, so using that structure for a Call of Duty movie would likely prove successful.
