Space Invaders should require no introduction to even the most casual of gamers, becoming an iconic title in video gaming history when it first came to arcades back in 1978.

It established the shoot ‘em up genre and became a pop culture icon, one that remains widely referenced to this day, featured in multiple television shows and was prominently referenced in films such as Pixels.

It’s never received its own dedicated adaptation, but that may soon change as Warner Bros confirmed back in 2014 that a film version was in the works, with I Am Legend writer Akiva Goldsman producing.

It seems destined to languish in development hell however as news has been sparse since then, but last year it was re-confirmed that Goldsman is still on the project, partnered with Safehouse Pictures.

Like Dance Dance Revolution, the story is non-existent so how Warner Bros plans to adapt this is not yet clear but for now, all we can do is await further updates.
