10 Video Game NPCs Who Could've Solved EVERYTHING (But Didn't)

2. Rico Velasquez - Killzone 2

Killzone 2 Rico Visari
Guerrilla Games

There's a large swath of Killzone fans who have a throbbing hate-boner for teammate Rico Velasquez after his unnecessarily violent conduct at the end of the second game.

The ISA's mission throughout Killzone 2 is to arrest Helghast Emperor Scolar Visari, with the explicit instruction to bring him in alive in order to charge him with war crimes.

Once Visari is cornered, however, he taunts the player's squad, pointing out that even if they killed him, it would destabilise Helghan and cause uncontrollable levels of chaos as the Helghast unites against the ISA.

As Visari gets in Rico's face, however, Rico angrily opens fire, killing him, much to the understandable frustration of player character Sev.

In Visari's dying breath, he assures the soldiers that madness is coming, and right on time, a colossal Helghan armada descends on the area, signalling the beginnings of total mayhem just as Visari promised it would.

Even accepting that Rico is angry and aggrieved for all of the death and destruction he's witnessed, he could've avoided making things worse by simply... not pulling the trigger. And that is why so many Killzone fans can't stand the guy.
