3. The Monk’s Fate Could Be Even Worse - Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Sekiro is a game which is truly masterful at making you respect the presences of its characters. Death comes quickly, and as such, life is precious and fleeting - it’s unwise to run headlong into a new character, unless you want to end up as a human shish.

One such imposing presence is that of Kotaro, a huge, burly-looking monk, weeping under a tree. Up until this point, people of this stature have always been enemies, so you approach with caution (and, if you’ve played a Soulsborne before now, this just screams “trap!”).

It turns out Kotaro is a gentle soul, and wants nothing more than a “pure white flower” to help him find his friends. The player soon finds out that he actually wants a pinwheel, and from here you have several options.

Giving him what he wants allows you to spirit him away, and giving him a similar-but-incorrect item allows you to encourage him to go work for a shady merchant.

However, there is a third option - if you’ve found the dodgy doctor Doujun, you can lure Kotaro down... where he’ll do unspeakable experiments on him instead.

Worth noting, however, if you choose this option, you are a b*****d.
