10 Video Game Objectives That Totally Trolled Players
2. Survive - Halo: Reach
Halo: Reach's final mission is the definition of a troll-job. The mission, "Lone Wolf," takes place as protagonist Noble Six stages his desperate last stand against the Covenant.
The simple mission objective which flashes up on the screen? "Survive."
Except, there's actually no way at all to complete the mission in tact, as you're only meant to keep the Covenant distracted long enough for the Pillar of Autumn to make it safely out of dodge, in turn teeing up the events of the original Halo.
No matter how valiant your fight and the objective suggesting there is a way for players to make it out in one piece, you will eventually be overwhelmed by the Covenant forces and killed, albeit for the greater good.
It's kinda genius, really, as showing an objective on-screen makes players believe they can actually overcome and fight harder to do so as a result, rather than simply assuming they were always fated to die and just giving up.
