10 Video Game Plot-Holes You Can't Ignore

1. Portal 2 - GLADOS Should Hate Cave Johnson

When it comes to Portal 2 Valve did something very clever, and very silly. Fans naturally wanted to know how GLADOS became the sardonic, cake-adoring psychopath we all know and love. Portal 2 gave us an answer, but it doesn’t make much sense.

During the game we learn that a dying Cave Johnson wanted his consciousness uploaded into digital form and, if he were to die, that his sweet and innocent assistant, Caroline, should take his place. Creepily, it is heavily implied that she was not given a choice.

Now, having your mind forcibly uploaded into digital form will warp anyone’s brain, never mind someone who’s not the mad scientist type, and understandably Caroline/GLADOS snapped, retaliating by immediately killing the scientists responsible. It is true that this is never explicitly stated but, by Occam’s Razor, is the most likely explanation.

So when GLADOS hears Cave Johnson’s voice – as well her own – leading to her regaining her memories of being Caroline, she should logically have been provoked to a murderous fury. But instead of being determined to destroy all trace of Johnson’s existence, she reverts to Caroline’s moral compass and becomes ‘good’ GLADOS.

To be fair, a definitively mind-altered Caroline would have made things a little... dark, but judging by the head scratching, which came after would have left players less confused.
