10 Video Game Questions You Didn't Realise Had Been Answered

8. How Is Captain Price Still Alive? - Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Captain Price is undeniably one of the most recognisable figures in the Call of Duty franchise. He first showed up in the original 2003 game, which is set during World War II, and ends up dying mid-game while helping the player infiltrate and disable a Nazi battleship.

Price returns for the sequel in levels set prior to his death, though seems to defy both time and mortality altogether by returning again for the ground-breaking fourth game, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

Many players were confused that Price - now named John Price - would be in the game at all, given both his death and the fact that Modern Warfare takes place in 2011, almost 70 years after he purportedly died. Even if he were still alive, he'd be so, so old.

Players have speculated about the reasons for Price's reappearance, most settling on the notion that Activision simply realised the character had iconic potential and decided to give him the soft-reboot treatment, despite the game being set within the same continuity as the original trilogy.

But the truth eventually emerged during a 2011 interview with Sami Onur, a character designer for Infinity Ward, who stated that the new Captain Price was actually the grandson of the original Price, and not an attempt to rewrite the original character's story.

That's certainly a tidy way to clear up any potential confusion.
