10 Video Game Relationships Actually Worth A Damn

10. Nathan Drake & Victor Sullivan - Uncharted

drake When Uncharted 2 released on the Playstation 3 back in the autumn of 2009, it took the gaming world by storm. Gamers were treated to one of the most extravagant, exciting, and well made action/adventure games ever crafted. It won numerous, well-deserved Game of the Year awards, and quickly propelled developer Naughty Dog from well-respected studio into arguably the most valuable and talented cream of Sony's crop. However, for many of us, as much as we enjoyed the game, there was something missing. And that "something" was none other than Victor Sullivan, aka Sully. Uncharted 2 was the point of entry into the series for many gamers. But two years earlier, the first game in the series, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, had released on the PS3, and it too was a rock-solid action/adventure game. However, what really made the game fantastic was the introduction of the characters of Nathan Drake and Victor Sullivan, and their multifaceted, sometimes stormy, but undeniably strong relationship. Covering the gamut between friends, mentor/mentee, and father/son, their relationship is masterfully presented to the player at a brisk yet effective pace, causing you to empathize, and eventually, come to quite like these charismatic characters. Some of the game's finest moments involve Drake and Sully simply moving from point A to point B, casually exchanging banter and cracking jokes. Since Drake and Sully spend a good chunk of the game together, the player feels like a part of a trio of friends with these guys by the end of the game. Many, many praises must be given to the voice acting performances of Nolan North and Richard McGonagle for their part in bringing this relationship to life in such a vibrant way. Naughty Dog obviously listened to gamers' "Not enough Sully!!" complaints regarding Uncharted 2, where his screen time was quite brief, because in Uncharted 3, they brought Sully back in a big way. To kick things off, we are treated to the origin story of how these two characters first meet in South America when Drake was just a boy (accompanied by one of the most thrilling platforming sequences to hit video games in years). From that point on, Sully is once again sharing a huge chunk of game time with Drake, and Amy Henning's evolution as a writer brings the poignancy of their relationship to a new level, including some searingly emotional moments near the end of the game. As the PS3 era draws to a close, one of the most exciting prospects of the upcoming Playstation 4 is to see where Drake and Sully end up next. They've become one of gaming's most dynamic duos, and their future together is surely bright.
