10 Video Game Remasters NOBODY Asked For
9. Life Is Strange Remastered Collection
Released in February 2022, the Life Is Strange Remastered Collection was a compendium consisting of Life Is Strange and prequel Before the Storm, as were released in 2015 and 2017 respectively.
While a seven-year gap between original and remaster might not seem egregious compared to other examples on this list, Life Is Strange just isn't a game that really merited the remaster treatment. Back in 2015 it was by far the best-looking mainstream episodic adventure game, and even today, it still holds up well.
The remasters' marginal-at-best aesthetic improvements didn't make the characters significantly more expressive, and certainly not enough to justify a double-dip for most players.
That the remaster ultimately introduced new glitches not present in the original games, also didn't help persuade anyone of its necessity.
It was incredibly easy to see the remaster project as a calculated move on the part of developer Deck Nine and publisher Square Enix to get Life Is Strange back in the public mindshare before they announced the impending sequel Life Is Strange: Double Exposure.
