These videos game secrets should've stayed secret.

The whole idea of a video game secret is that players want to find it. Whether this secret unlocks a hidden feature or serves as a harmless Easter egg, it's refreshing when players uncover them. When you poke around in a seemingly empty corner and find an undisclosed item, room, or reference, it feels like the game is acknowledging your curiosity and efforts.

However, players don't always feel rewarded. When you spend hours solving obscure puzzles or scouring every pixel of a map, it's disappointing when you're gifted with a cosmetic item, a trivial stat boost, or a short cutscene. On occasion, finding a hidden code or cipher can make things worse, especially if you unlock a more difficult path or a tedious boss fight.

It also must be acknowledged that gaming secrets mightn't just affect the gameplay but the plot. By speaking to specific characters or discovering a hidden cutscene, you can discover disheartening aspects of the narrative you wish you didn't know.

Even though you may be tempted to seek out these gaming secrets, it's probably for the best to leave them locked away.

10. Fighting Charon - Hades

Hades follows the Prince of the Underworld, Zagreus, who hopes to escape Hell and reunite with his mother on the surface. To help in his journey, Zag can visit Charon's shop, which appears at random intervals. While here, the defiant demigod can purchase extra health and power upgrades.

On occasion, a bag of coins will appear in the back of Charon's store. The first time players notice this bag, they may click on it out of curiosity. In doing so, Charon will accuse Zagreus of trying to rob him and challenge him to a fight.

Now facing Charon sounds like a good idea, since defeating the demonic ferryman will earn Zagreus hundreds of coins and a shop discount for the rest of the run.

But there's a problem - Charon is really frickin' hard. Unless you are equipped with the best weapons and upgrades, coming out on top isn't easy.

Even if Zagreus wins, it's not a cause for celebration, since he'll be low on health, making it borderline impossible to complete the run. For this reason, you might as well kill yourself after the Charon fight and start from scratch with a full health bar.
