6. The Frenzied Frame - Elden Ring

Elden Ring contains six endings, four of which involve The Tarnished becoming The Elden Lord. Though the ins-and-outs of these four conclusions are different, players should be happy, seeing the protagonist wielding the power of the titular Ring (especially after dying against Malenia 400 times).

Even though you don't attain Elden Lord status by achieving Ranni's ending, this particular climax feels narratively complete since it ties up many loose ends.

The same cannot be said if The Tarnished goes about The Frenzied Flame route. If the Tarnished finds three specific artefacts, his story will conclude with him making a pact with the Frenzied Flame, which incinerates The Lands Between. Not only does this ending offer no closure for any of the characters, it's too brief to explore the ramifications of The Tarnished's actions.

Players should be so pissed at this outcome, it's likely they'll try and unlock another ending to make up for it. But this is easier said than done. Once you embrace the Frenzied Flame, you're locked into this ending unless you go through an obscure questline to undo it.

This lack of flexibility feels unfair, since many players didn't realise accepting the Frenzied Flame was almost irreversible.
