10 Video Game Secrets Everyone REGRETS Finding
5. Branch E - Drakengard 3
This NieR spin-off centres around an unstable woman called Zero, who must defeat her five magical sisters to bring peace to the world.
Similar to the NieR games, Drakengard 3 has multiple branched endings to unlock that drastically affect the overarching plot. Players must complete the four main branches to access Branch E, which serves as the game's canonical ending.
Although Drakengard 3's true ending is memorable, it isn't enjoyable or rewarding. In Branch E, players take control of another hero called Mikhail, who must destroy Zero, who's been transformed into a godlike entity.
Although there's nothing wrong with a secret final boss in concept, the tone of this battle is extremely jarring. Even though Drakengard 3 is a hack-and-slash RPG, this battle takes the form of a rhythm game. This entire encounter isn't just out-of-place but unbearably difficult and tedious. There are no visual cues when to attack and a single mistake will reset the entire fight.
Unfortunately, the ending isn't much better. Rather than offering emotional closure or a narrative payoff, the conclusion is filled with abstract symbolism and parodical gobbledegook.
In hindsight, it's best to complete Branch D and pretend that's the real ending.
