10 Video Game Sequels That Changed The Way You Viewed Characters

3. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots - Raiden

Red Dead Redemption - John Marston
Konami

Out of everyone on this list, Raiden might be the one to have changed the most, at least physically.

Raiden's introduction to the franchise was immediately met with fan backlash. Metal Gear Solid 2 was advertised as another Pliskin Solid Snake adventure but instead, players took control of Snake's replacement, Raiden.

This pulling of the rug from under players did not go well, especially with Raiden's whinier attitude to his work. Because of Raiden, MGS 2 is regarded as one of the worst titles in the entire series.

So series creator, Hideo Kojima, did what Kojima does best and reintroduced the character in MGS 4 as a badass ninja cyborg akin to the fan favourite Gray Fox. Raiden went from a second-rate character to having his own spin-offs in no time.

Raiden's shiny new design was so popular it even spawned an Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood costume and a memorial in Leeds city center.
