2. Halo 4 - Master Chief
Master Chief, in the same respect as Doom Guy, was initially presented as a pure, unstoppable, force.
Known only as John 117, the Chief was left intentionally as a blank slate. Over the course of the entire original trilogy, all of MC's voice lines amounted to around just five minutes. These were often action hero one-liners like Stalone or Schwarzenegger.
After the third installment, Bungie sold the rights to the Halo franchise to Microsoft. Not long after that, developers 343 started their own trilogy of Halo games. Part of their vision was to humanize John and build on the man behind the mask.
This approach did not go down too well with the existing audience who were used to Chief as an unkillable suit of armour. Rather than being this powerful husk sent to defeat an alien menace, 343's Chief is on a personal journey and often feels vulnerable emotionally and physically.
