10 Video Game Speed-Run Achievements Only Hardcore Players Will Unlock
4. Speedlunky - Spelunky
The Achievement: "Complete the game in under 8 minutes. No shortcuts."
Roguelike-inspired platformer Spelunky can easily take up hundreds of hours of your time, but committed players who want to sprint to the end can probably do so in around 15 or 20 hours, with hundreds if not thousands of deaths behind them.
The game's "Speedlunky" achievement requires players to beat the game in just eight minutes with no shortcuts, and the only way to do this is to practise like your life depends on it.
You need to be extremely familiar with the route to progress through each world, but also avoid blindly rushing around as you'll likely end up scoring a stupid death and having to start all over again.
You need to beast through 16 levels at roughly 30 seconds a-piece, including battling the game's main boss Olmec, who alone can easily cause countless deaths.
It is not a task for the faint of heart, and one which tests not only players' ability to slide through the game on the bare minimum resources, but also adapt to the sheer random peril it will throw at you.
Even with some of the fantastically helpful guides on offer out there, this thing is torture to most players.
