10 Video Game Sub-Bosses Who DESTROYED Players

2. Seven Ashina Spears - Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

If there’s one thing that spurs a bunch of vitriolic comments to amass in my personal inbox, it’s hearing how a FromSoft thing I found difficult isn’t actually difficult, because some 14-year-old chap in Winsconsin with “420” and “Sephiroth” in his gamertag says it’s not.

Yet, here I am, talking about how Seven Ashina Spears is the hardest miniboss in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice - yes, moreso than the big wrestling troll, more than the ghost monk - this yari-wielding brute caused me way, way more trouble in my initial playthrough.

Specifically towards the end of the game, where the castle is ablaze, Ashina Spears (or “Shinny” to his mates) can be found outside by a patch of fire with one of his brute buddies. As if fighting him alone wasn’t tricky enough, trying to parry his rapid stabs and swings whilst Boab behind me jabs my lumbar is next-level aggravating.

Second only to the true final boss, in my opinion, this miniboss encounter was the hardest fight in the game - even attempting to cheese this guy with pitfalls or fire sees him just... teleporting back to his spawn point, ready for some more gougin’.

Well, can Isshin do that? Eh?
