10 Video Game Trailers That Spoiled WAY Too Much

6. Kane's Stroggification - Quake 4

By far the most memorable moment in Quake 4's campaign is the mid-game twist where protagonist Kane is knocked out and imprisoned by the alien cyborgs known as the Strogg.

In one of their "medical facilities," they initiate a "stroggification" process whereby much of Kane's anatomy is replaced with bio-mechanical parts in an attempt to transform him into one of the Strogg.

It's a shocking and gnarly sequence, all the more so as it unfolds from an ultra-immersive first-person perspective, and yet it was freely spoiled in the game's E3 2005 trailer roughly three months before Quake 4's release.

The trailer extensively details Kane being stroggified with cinematic third-person cameras, ensuring that players were tipped off to anticipate a scene that would've otherwise been horrifyingly unexpected.

Furthermore, the trailer's text even says, "The only way to defeat them is to become one of them," spoiling that you're able to use your newfound Strogg abilities against the Strogg themselves.
