In life, people sometimes decide that they no longer want to feud with each other, so they’ll genuinely put their differences aside and become close pals. Those truces can just as easily be built upon lies and ulterior motives, though, if one party is doing it purely to gain an advantage over the other.

Unfortunately, this happens a lot in multiplayer video games as well.

In particular, plenty of ill-intentioned schemers will exploit the easily recognizable sign for peace – rapidly crouching – to bait the opposing gamer(s) into a false sense of security and camaraderie.

From there, these sinister souls will either stab their gullible new buddies in the back – figuratively or literally – right away, or they’ll keep the illusion going by joining the other side and gaining various advantages before laying everyone else to waste when the perfect time comes.

Naturally, battle royales such as Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone, Apex Legends, and PUBG are hotbeds for this sort of heinous conduct. That said, it can happen within virtually any multiplayer title, including Minecraft, Halo: Infinite, and Team Fortress 2.

Plus, these tricksters can pull off the same sort of treachery in any number of other ways, which is why it’s increasingly important for gamers to stop falling for it so frequently.
