4. Dr. Wily - Mega Man

Geniuses can sometimes be under-appreciated and ridiculed - that's a sad fact of life. Not every genius uses that wounded pride and bitterness to fuel plans to destroy the world though; Dr. Wily is definitely an exception there. Dr. Wily was an expert in robotics and gained his PhD at the Robert University of Technology, alongside his friend Dr. Light. Together, they created a series of humanoid robots which would benefit mankind, although Dr. Light received most of the credit for this. Despite being on equal footing with his partner, Dr. Wily's accomplishments were deemed lesser by the world and this drove him slightly mad. He reprogrammed his robots to be ready for combat and built a giant factory, pumping out a robot army to take over the world with. While Dr. Light continued to further the development of computing and robotics for the benefit of mankind, Dr. Wily drove himself mad with jealousy and bitterness and sought to destroy and enslave the world, rather than aid or assist it. The partnership between Light and Wily could have led to some truly incredible breakthroughs; instead, Dr. Wily brought war to the world countless times, becoming the stereotypical mad scientist. He fails every time, of course, but his persistence should be applauded.
