10 Video Game Villains Who Could Have Saved The World

5. William Birkin - Resident Evil

As a virologist, working for one of the largest corporations in the world, William Birkin had the power to help change the world and make it a better place for good. Rather than doing so, he developed a new strain of the zombie-creating T-Virus and implanted an embryo into his daughter in an attempt to spread the disease, also leading to the destruction of Raccoon City. It's safe to say he won't be winning any parenting awards anytime soon. Originally invested in finding a cure for the Ebola virus which had just been discovered in Africa, Birkin began life in Umbrella with good intentions. However, jealousy and greed took their toll on the prodigy after his role as the youngest scientist at Umbrella was taken away from him by a ten-year old girl. Eventually, alongside the series' original evil genius Albert Wesker, he began experimenting on a human (Lisa Trevor) and created a new mutated virus, which he then tried to secretly sell to the U.S Government. Long story short, he was betrayed and ended up using the virus on himself, turning into a hulking monster and getting blown up on a train. Had Birkin simply kept his head down, he would have potentially found a cure for Ebola and many other viruses. Instead, he went slightly mental and inadvertently killed a bunch of people; not exactly Nobel Prize winning form.

I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
