10 Video Game Villains Who Secretly Won
6. Apollyon - For Honor
Set within an alternate history, Ubisoft’s For Honor centres around medieval warrior factions locked in an ongoing war. While the game is best known for its excellent multiplayer mode and in-depth combat system, there’s nevertheless a campaign for players to enjoy and sharpen their fighting skills.
When the initial fighting between the Knight, Viking, and Samurai factions starts to slow down, antagonist Apollyon decides to reignite the conflict between the groups to start a new age of war, believing that eliminating the weak through fighting is the only way to better humanity.
By manipulating and antagonising each of the factions, the warlord almost succeeds in her goals. That is until it’s discovered that she’s the mastermind behind the game’s events, however.
A tense and demanding boss fight finally puts an end to Apollyon’s plans, and it looks like peace is once again in reach. But this momentary truce is short lived.
After some time, the spark of war is reignited between the factions as infighting breaks out. It’s this new conflict that becomes the basis for the multiplayer mode, which shows no sign of ending.
Apollyon may be dead, but she got exactly what she wanted.
