10 Video Game Villains Who Secretly Won

Set two years after the events of The Blair Witch Project, Bloober Team’s Blair Witch sees former police officer and war veteran Ellis venture into the Black Hills Forest accompanied by his faithful canine companion in search of a missing boy.

It doesn’t take long until the titular witch’s presence is felt when the environment starts to shift and change, with strange creatures and visions likewise plaguing Ellis’s journey. Along the way, the veteran also encounters a dishevelled man named Carver, who’s revealed to be the boy’s kidnapper.

In a brain-bending final twist, it’s implied that Carver is Ellis from the future after having been stuck in a time loop in the woods for years. Depending on whether the player falls for the witch’s devious tricks, Ellis will either kill Carver and take his place, or Carver will kill Ellis, which breaks the cycle.

No matter which fate befalls Ellis, it’s the witch who emerges victorious.

If Ellis becomes Carver, the witch’s manipulation is successful, and she’ll continue to torment him for years. But if Ellis doesn't fall into her traps, he's still punished for defying the witch's orders.

Regardless of the outcome, there's no stopping the witch's terrifying hold over the forest.
