10 Video Game Villains Who Sneakily Dropped Hints About Their Big Reveal
2. Scott Shelby - Heavy Rain
One of the biggest complaints people have about the story of Heavy Rain is that the reveal of Scott Shelby as the Origami Killer comes out of left field, completely undermining the plot points of several other characters in the game.
For the record, this criticism is completely valid, but at the same time, it's not like Scott Shelby is revealed without any prior setup either.
The fake-act detective leaves out a few details in his storyline about what his connection to the case actually is. The first one is the fact that he's investigating the case of Ethan's missing son, Shaun, despite having no prior contact with the boy's family or the police precinct investigating the kidnapping. In fact, Shelby has a lot of insider knowledge about Shaun's case, such as his name, his age, and even how long he has until the Origami Killer drowns him.
Another hint is that Shelby owns an old typewriter, the same as the model the killer uses to write his letters.
Sure, it's easy to think of these as coincidences at first, but after you play through the game once, it all clicks into place.
