The main villain of Baldur's Gate 1 is Sarevok Anchev, the cursed spawn of the god of murder, Bhaal, who seeks to conquer the world to turn it into his own perverse hunting ground.

The original Sarevok is a wicked and extremely dangerous man that you prepare to fight the entire game. When you finally cross blades and defeat him, you manage to banish him from the mortal world for good.

Or so you think.

Sarevok makes an unexpected reappearance in the sequel. Moreover, his second coming is complete with an equally shocking redemption arc!

In Baldur's Gate 2, the main villain is an evil wizard called Jon Irenicus. Early in the story, you and your party have a hard time finding him, and the only solution for getting any clues turns out to be contacting Sarevok on the other side.

The original villain offers to help in exchange for bringing him back into the world, and while this may sound like a betrayal in the making, the revived Sarevok does in fact help you find and even defeat Irenicus. Not only that, depending on your choices, he can even end up becoming a paladin, fully cleansed of his past bloodthirst!

Now, that's quite the one-eighty!
